Meet the Hummingbird Doulas

While I’ve been certified as a doula since 2001, I attended my first birth when my sister was born at The Childbirth Center in Englewood, NJ. I was six years old at the time. Having gone on to give birth to each of my three children naturally, my last daughter at home, I have a deep belief that each woman should be supported, protected, and listened to during her own journey through pregnancy, labor, and birth. While each woman’s needs are different during the process of giving birth, every birthing experience is one to be cherished, validated, and life- affirming.

I believe I have been on a birth journey. When I had my first child in 1999, though the phrase "healthy mother, healthy baby" applied, I felt overwhelmed and disappointed in the experience. In my search for answers, I discovered the word doula and it changed me forever. The years that followed included attending births of all kinds and believing that a doula has an important role in every birth experience. I am honored and humbled to support families through the birth process.
